Newborn assessments

After birth we do an assessment at two weeks for any child who has had a complicated delivery or an admission.

Routine baby screens are at 6 weeks/5-6 months/1 year and 18 months, annual checks thereafter are optional.

At these visits, the following are addressed:

  • Growth (weight/length/head circumference)
  • Neurodevelopmental milestones: fine motor/gross motor/personal and social development/hearing and language skills.
  • Immunisations and prevention of illness
  • Feeding practices and introduction of semisolids
  • Sleep issues
  • Discipline concerns
  • Any other concerns, big or small, which you as a parent may have.

Well baby checks are important to pick up any issues at an early stage, so that we can address these promptly affording the best possible outcome for your child.
